COVERGIRL Taylor Swift en los GRAMMY’s! Maquillista Lorrie Turk

COVERGIRL Taylor

House of James Troisi: NYFW Fall 2012 Collections

Being a fan of Project Runway only left me excited to view the collection of Jason Troisi from Season 8.  I am not a fan of his but the idea of another Project Runway contestant actually creating something of substance made me more than curious.  My friend Blair Jenkins, a Fashion Stylist based out of New York City and I attended the show Thursday February 9, 2012.   His collection “The House of James Troisi” was not at all what I expected.  It began with the viewing of a short film showing his collection on the runway with a combination of unusual models.  One over muscular male model gave off a “Jersey Shore” vibe rather than high fashion.

The house was open to everyone and anyone in the fashion industry.  From experts, bloggers, editors, fans, artists, and more.  The collection played on bondage and the combativeness of war.  However the models left an ingénue that brought a very soft palette to a very harsh and rustic line.

It left me feeling confused because there was lack of structure for the whole viewing but once the models stepped out in his pieces I was oddly intrigued. It felt as if I was doing something very naughty by looking and admiring because of the brazenness of his collection and the boundaries he wanted to push.

Check out the photos and tell me what you think!

Side Note: It was very cold in New York City and my biggest thing about fashion week is that I wanted to look chic, but put together without effort.  The fact is that I was jumping into cabs left and right and running around town.  My outfit was perfection!  I wore a black shimmer top, a snakeskin animal print scarf, a black leather jacket, black slacks and black ballerina slippers that had black and white pearl beads on them for a little added extra bonus!  I was comfortable, felt gorgeous and no matter what I am learning my style is comfortable chic!  I like it and I sticking with it.

Look Inside My Suitcase! Travelista Style Ideas & Savvy Shopping Tips!

Traveling is so hard.  But I have a jet setter heart.  Packing for New York City Fashion Week brought up a good question.  Comfort or style?  Can both be done?  I gave it a whirl with some easy pieces that brought color, comfort and the perfect sense of style as I hit the pavement to cover fashion.  Hey, it’s a hard job but somebody has to do it.

My first pieces are two great tops that I picked up at New York and Company.  The pink charmeuse  side-tie top cinches at the waist and slims me by creating an hour glass figure.  The orange and cream knit tee pleats down my bodice slimming me completely.  I can wear these over four days with a skirt, jeans, tights and black slacks.  The color gives me a warm glow without makeup and tanning (not that I need it anyway, I am a little cafe con leche (coffee and milk) complexion anyway.

I then knew that I didn’t want a bulky jacket that swallowed my outfits.  I couldn’t help but buy this gorgeous faux leather jacket from New York and Company with its hard edges I thought the contrast would look great with my soft silhouettes and vibrant colors.  I finished it off with a yummy animal print scarf from Express.

I believe that some items are worth investing in and these were some of those pieces not expensive at all.  Look below for a savvy shopping tip!

Express Animal Print Scarf: $30

NY & Company Leather Jacket: $90

NY & Company Pink Charmeuse Top: $37.00

NY & Company Orange Knit Tee: $27.00

Savvy Shopping Tip: If you sign up with your email address at NY & Company’s website.  They will email you a $25.00 off coupon for your purchase!  I did it while I was in the store.

Feminine VS. Edgy: Femenino Junto Fuera a La Normalidad en Estilos

I always feel like I struggle between my softer side in fashion and my hidden edgier side.  I love anything that makes you look feminine but I also adore those things that push the boundaries without being gaudy.  I created this combination look because it combined the hard and edginess that a leather jacket brings alongside the femininity of being a woman and embracing our curves with short dresses and accessories.

AWEARNESS An Exclusive Sneak Peek!

Sundance Volunteer Group & Kenneth Cole!

I am excited to share this amazing news that was sent to me directly!  I hope you love it just as much a I did.

AWEARNESS, THE KENNETH COLE FOUNDATION DEBUTS THE FIRST-EVER VIGNETTE HONORING VOLUNTEERS AT THE 2012 SUNDANCE FESTIVAL

WHO:            Fashion designer and social activist, Kenneth Cole & the 2012 Sundance Film Festival

WHAT:        AWEARNESS, The Kenneth Cole Foundation collaborated with Sundance Institute on the development of a vignette celebrating the Festival volunteers that will debut at this year’s Festival.   Titled “One Good Deed,” the vignette was written by Kenneth Cole Productions and produced and directed by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg of Break Thru Films (directors of the documentary “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work”).

The vignette will be shown at the start of all films being screened at the Festival on January 25th, Volunteer Appreciation Day. The vignette stars Derek Waters and is a comedic spoof about what happens when he is mistaken for a Festival volunteer after inadvertently being handed an official Kenneth Cole 2012 Sundance Film Festival volunteer jacket.   Derek’s work includes:  “Hall Pass,”  “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and creator of “Drunk History.”

Signage featuring a QR Code enabling people to watch the vignette on their mobile devices, and reminding them to thank the volunteers for their tireless efforts, will be also displayed throughout the Festival on Volunteer Appreciation Day.

“So much of what Sundance Institute is able to do is made possible only by the generous and extraordinary spirit of many individuals,” says Kenneth Cole.  “I’ve long said that it’s the volunteers who are the real stars of the Sundance Film Festival, and this collaboration was our way of thanking them for everything that they do.”

For the eighth year in a row, Kenneth Cole has designed and donated the uniform that is worn by the 1,800+ Sundance Film Festival volunteers and staff.  Presented on Day One of the Festival, this year’s iconic style is a warm red down-filled jacket featuring channel quilting, welt pockets, and zip-off sleeves.

On January 19th, Kenneth Cole announced the Gayle Stevens Sundance Institute “Volunteer of the Year” Award presented by AWEARNESS, The Kenneth Cole Foundation.   Kenneth Cole has been an advocate for the Institute’s mission and dedicated supporter of Sundance Film Festival volunteers since 2003.

Slow Workouts Slow Foods

This year I decided to give myself more time.  More time to reach my weight loss goals.  But, I have also noticed that I started off this year motivated but sluggish.  My workouts are fun for me and not because of the goal of “weight loss” but because they are they only time that I do not have to think about anything else, but one task at hand.  That task being the exercise at that moment.  It is my “me” time and trust me this year I will not lack “me” time.   But through these workouts I find that I am slow, motivated but slow.  Slow is normal but not after a few weeks.

So it made me go back and look at my diet.  I am a diva, a beauty queen, a goddess of all things beauty, fashion and wellness.  But what I lacked this year was even more knowledge on the things that I love to eat.  I was eating healthy, I was eating smaller meals but more frequently so, what the heck was going on?  Through this small epiphany I discovered that there are some slow workouts that are caused by what I like to call slow foods.  These are good foods that should be avoided around workout times.  So here are my top 3 to avoid before workouts:

Flax Seed: So good for you! But they are full in fiber.  Thus making you feel bloated.

Dairy: We all know this is an important part of your healthy diet.  But avoid it 2-3 hours before your workouts. It can make you feel tired, cause a bit of an acidic feel.

Water (Flavored): No not water!  Water with flavor.  A lot of people drink flavored water because it makes you feel less nauseated after consuming so much of it during the day.  But water was not meant to have flavor. Many of this flavoring contains artificial sweetners.  These sweetners can mess up some of the good bacteria that helps your body.  It is all natural.  A lot of flavored waters have sugar NOT GOOD!  Want some flavor add lemon, orange or cucumber slices all natural and much better for you.

So skip the slow foods and opt for an efficient and less-lethargic, slow workout!

Exclusivo: Cover Girl y Los Golden Globes!

Exclusivo!!!

(January 16, 2012) – Last night’s #GoldenGlobes red carpet was truly a reflection of Hollywood fashion and glam at its best! Our spokesperson Sofia Vergara stunned in a Vera Wang gown while delivering a natural youthful COVERGIRL look. Sofia’s hit show Modern Family took home the Golden Globe for best TV comedy series but it was her speech that stole the show! A prideful Latina and role model for Latinas all around, Sofia made sure to let everyone know she was @Orgullosa of being on that stage!  Our newest addition, COVERGIRL Queen Collection ambassador & star of the latest Mission Impossible movie, Paula Patton, also stood out in a bright yellow/gold/mustard/canary dress by LA designer Monique Lhuillier as she presented a coveted Golden Globe next to Bridesmaids’ star Melissa McCarthy while rocking the latest COVERGIRL innovation,  the new LashBlast 24HR Mascara.

Frédéric Fekkai CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund runway presentation – Sidelong glamour

It is always fun to get the inside scoop as I like to call it.  I was excited to this.  Here is a twist to our typical ponytail look from Frédéric Fekkai and celebrity stylist Renato Campora.  I love simplicity I feel like it brings out the best in us.  This look is simple yet elegant.

To recreate this look follow these steps…

Top tip: Apply Fekkai Full Blown Volume™ Styling Whip throughout the hair until the entire head is damp. 2 Blow dry the hair using a large round brush. 3 Once the hair is mostly dry, straighten hair with a flat iron, separating into sections, while applying Frédéric Fekkai Essential Shea Tame and Style Pot de Crème to add shine. 4 Create a deep, exaggerated part to the right side of the head.

When Your Body Betrays You!

Me now beginning my weight loss  journey again!

Oxygen Magazine a Few Years Ago was 1/2 way to my goal.

Several years ago I was proud of my fitness journey.  See, among many things I am proud to also be a Fitness Expert.  But something happened about a year and a half ago that changed my entire perspective on the industry and what it really takes to keep your weight off.  I was featured in Oxygen Magazine a few years ago for the work I had done on my own body and the work I helped others achieve.  It was my proudest moment.  But as I mentioned above a year and a half ago my body began to betray me.  It was acting funny.  I wasn’t able to to get pregnant.  I was not losing weight.  I could not sleep.  It was disturbing, I was this expert.  I should know what was happening.  I later found out that through all my hard work I was also a leech for stress.  I sucked in every amount of it and it affected my body that I developed three abdominal hernias.

I share this with you because as a woman I made mistakes that affected my health.  As a mom, as a wife, as a business owner I betrayed my son, my husband and my clients.  How was this my fault?  Well I took care of every one else before I took care of myself.  I learned many lessons and they are to always take the time to take care of me first. How can I take care of everyone else if I can’t take care of myself?  I learned that a physical is a must!  Be proactive in your health and keep notes.  Doctors see many patients and it is their job but most importantly it is your job to keep up with your health and your body.  Make them stop, make them listen and answer your questions.  Also don’t be lazy!  We put things off.  I can honestly tell you I rescheduled my medical appointments so many times because I was busy taking care of my family that my Doctor’s office almost dropped me.

I am well on my journey.  This year I will be seeing an expert in a few months that understands my body and my health issues.  Surgery at this time was not an option that I wanted to foresee.  But through health changes, decreased stress levels, and working with a physician I am getting better and back to a fitter me.  The picture below was about half way to my goal.  I fell behind and I am starting from scratch but that’s okay.  It okay because I can’t live up to others expectations and definitely not my inflated ones either.  I must take the time to enjoy life and the journey I am on again.

See I decided that my goal is 120 by the end of the year.  One year to lose the weight.  I am also taking the time to love myself more now so that when I get to my final destination I ultimately find myself proud because I loved myself through the whole process.  My body betrayed me but I betrayed my body first.  Don’t do that to yourself.  I wish you nothing but success this year.  I wish you nothing but peace, love and light.

Oh and by the way because I am not afraid to share with you my real size because I am a real woman.

The first picture me in the blue shirt is me NOW I weight 214 lbs and I have 95lbs to lose by December 2012.  Yes, 120 is a good weight for a girl of my stature of 5’2.  I am beginning my journey again and I am wiser this time around.

The Oxygen Magazine picture was me when I was half way at my goal.  I was 167.  I hope you join me on my journey!
